Since the founding of our nation’s first hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Hospital in 1751, Pennsylvania has long been internationally recognized as a leader in the life sciences.  Today, Pennsylvania is home to the continuum of the life sciences – world-class research, emerging companies, mature industry and global industry.

As an industry, we are fortunate to have an abundance of resources at our fingertips across the Commonwealth.  Pennsylvania is home to world-renowned research institutions such as the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pennsylvania, both of which rank annually in the top ten for National Institutes of Health (NIH) research funding.  In addition to our academic resources, Pennsylvania is also home to a number of incubator assets for entrepreneurs and start-up organizations.
